2017 Opening Ceremonies

Almost five years to the day, the wheels were set in motion to create a permanent place in our city where special citizens could be recognized for their contributions to our fast growing community. As well, we identified a need to highlight the pioneers who we can thank for Mississauga’s early beginnings. All would be housed in an outdoor museum with free public access, 24 hours a day, so that our citizens and visitors could learn and be inspired. The newly opened Celebration Square was already teeming with activity and it was clear that THIS was the place where we had to be located. In the heart of the city where people gather to celebrate our unique diversity and enjoy our beautiful public space.

Sixteen of the original group of local community activists and leaders were invited by Founder Ron Duquette to participate in this important project. All volunteers, they began the process of planning, obtaining city approvals, designing, raising the necessary funds to build, and of course, select the inductees who would be profiled on Mississauga Legends Row. Presentations were made to the City Council of the day and in May 2013, approval was given to proceed. Over the years, a few faces have changed, design concepts modified, but our dream remained intact.

Today, that dream has become a reality! And we are honoured to present the fruits of our labour to our city and our fellow Mississauga citizens.

Enjoy Legends Row Mississauga. Your “Walk of Fame” ….and watch us grow!
